Olympian, Commonwealth Games Gold medallist and BBC Sports Presenter Craig Heap visited College today as an Athlete Mentor for the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme.
He started the day by delivering an assembly to Key Stage 4 students with a message of working hard at school and following your dreams. Next he worked with a select group of GCSE PE students talking to them about his journey from a farming background in Burnley to being the first British male individual gymnast to compete at an Olympic Games – in Sydney in 2000.
He delivered some team building activities including sitting volleyball and then enjoyed a delicious school lunch. In the afternoon he mentored our students as they officiated at the Primary School Sports Hall Athletics competition with pupils from Langley Park, Edmondsley, Bearpark and Esh Winning.
The students helped set up the equipment and then measured, timed and counted as the primary pupils competed in a range of events. Primary staff were very impressed with their organisational skills and Craig thoroughly enjoyed his busy day saying that our students had been a credit to the College. We look forward to him returning in the New Year.
